I know for myself the real difference therapy offers in reducing anxiety, building self-esteem and overcoming difficulties. Since first approaching a therapist in my early thirties, I have worked with excellent therapists of different backgrounds, and at different stages in my life journey have found therapy invaluable in addressing pain and growing through the changes that life inevitably brings.
During my first occupation of the field of pastoral care, I trained in Person-Centred Counselling, and have spent thousands of hours supporting people at transitional points in their life journey, including partner relationships and marriage, parenthood, and bereavement. I have supplemented this long experience with a full professional training in Integrative Therapy. I am passionate about offering my skills and experience to help people move through times of overwhelming to find growth, balance and peace.
A lover of music, literature, art, film and TV, I have wide-ranging tastes and interests. I often find that common interests open up ways to tell personal stories and express deep feelings, longings and hopes. I am drawn to imagination and creativity and can offer creative processes to help express feelings where words are difficult.
Experience during and beyond the COVID pandemic has taught me more deeply about the mind-body connection and how exercise and body-awareness are crucial to mental health. I practice mindfulness regularly and can offer help in applying these transformative life skills.
I am fascinated by the diverse ways humans find and make meaning. Alongside my commitment to practicing therapy, I have interests in philosophy and theology. I am particularly interested in working with issues of meaning and identity. A Christian myself, I can find common ground easily and am happy to work with people of faith or without faith.
Close relationships with people significantly different to me has helped me to deepen sensitivity to the ways in which culture, race and sexuality play a positive part in our identities. I am LGBTQ allied.
