My passion is supporting people who are experiencing disconnection, stress, conflict, self-criticism, sadness or anxiety. Using a variety of approaches, we can work together to find understanding, self acceptance, and new approaches for changing 'stuck' patterns.
The way I work
Being in counselling is a way to be 'seen', accepted at deep level, and compassionately accompanied through the issues that distress you.
Creating a relationship of accepting, genuine encounter is the bedrock of my counselling practice. Clients tell me that I am warm, perceptive and easy to talk to.
My professional training is in Integrative Therapy. This comprehensive approach equips me to tailor how I work with each person. I offer a supportive, understanding relationship in which you are free to acknowledge painful feelings and work through life issues which at present, feel overwhelming, isolating or shaming.
We may explore your life-history to understand of how past events unconsciously influence your actions in the present, and how ineffective, limiting ways of relating can change. Or it may be more helpful to work in the ‘here and now’ with compassionate curiosity and identify where life's natural forward motion has become ‘stuck’. Mindful Awareness offers possibilities for developing a kinder more expansive relationship with our bodies and minds. Recognising habitual links between thought, feelings and behaviours can open up ways to challenge and change unhelpful processes that have become automatic. And the experience of being in therapy can lead to a more secure sense of self and ability to attach with significant others in your life
I combine and shape all of these therapeutic approaches in a way that is appropriate for each individual client We review together on a regular basis how the counselling is working and how the focus might need to change in order to maintain progress.
